About Us
Ancient Road is the only Hoodoo botanica in the State of New Mexico and the only "working" occult shop in the area as well. Meaning that we are trained "workers" who have been involved and initiated into various occult traditions and we "make" all the magickal items in the shop as well as teach folks how to use such items. We also have "working" altars in the shop where we do rituals, candle workings and ceremonies on behalf of our clients. Ancient Road is a small magickal oasis in the desert where folks can acquire hard to find items such as gator claws, Solomonic talismans (handmade of course under the correct astrological timings) and condition oils made with genuine herbs and essential oils. Ancient Road also has an in-shop library where students and seekers can research and work. We offer top classes in folk magic, Hoodoo, Traditional Witchcraft and Ceremonial magick that you will not find anywhere else. In addition, we offer a wide variety of services including tarot readings, traditional astrology and Rootwork. Ancient Road brings in acclaimed authors and magickal practitioners to conduct workshops and book signings as well. We are dedicated to the Arte Magickal and welcome all traditions and seekers from any path. Ancient Road is the place where folks interested in serious magickal arts come and we count workers from the Curanderismo traditions, Vodou, Santeria, the OTO and various pagan traditions as our valued patrons and customers. An experience to be sure, Ancient Road is not to be missed by those interested in the magickal arts, do stop by if you are in town!
Miss Maya
Miss Maya is the owner and main Houdoun at Ancient Road. She created Ancient Road in 2007 after a demand from students for in-depth magickal training and a need from clients for items they had trouble acquiring. From the humble beginnings of a one room office that she taught and worked at part time in the evenings, Ancient Road the brick and mortar shop was opened in 2010 full time. Miss Maya comes from a magickal family gifted with psychics and workers, she learned laying on of hands, dreaming true, and spell work. Feeling a need to continue her learning she was initiated into the Feri Tradition of Witchcraft as well as continued her learning of Rootwork and Afro-Caribbean magickal traditions. Miss Maya has spent extensive time living and working all over the world in pursuit of her magickal knowledge; most notably when she lived in the Islamic nation of Bangladesh where she taught English and recorded local shamanic folklore as well as several trips to Thailand. Having family in the British Isles she has returned many times to England and Scotland to study sacred sites and witchcraft lore as well as research trips to Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany and Holland. Miss Maya is a noted and respected Rootworker with clients all over the country and widely sought after by the African American community in New Mexico.
